This week, we’re highlighting and recognizing our new team member Thomas Knapp!
Tom is a seasoned architect and project manager with 30+ years of experience in building design and construction. His past projects include custom single-family homes, residential remodeling/additions, low-rise multi-family and mixed-use projects, as well as commercial interiors, restaurants/bars, outpatient medical offices and small industrial remodeling projects. We are proud to say he has received several awards for his historic preservation and restoration work on national historic landmark buildings.
Tom is NCARB Certified, a member of the Association of Licensed Architects, and a Registered Architect who is licensed in Illinois and Wisconsin. He received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Illinois at Chicago and attended the study abroad program at the Ecole Nationale in Versailles, France. Since that first trip abroad, Tom has visited more than 300 cities in 22 countries. He enjoys visiting older cities where he loves to track down rare architecture and garden design projects which he photographs for his own collection.
Tom has great respect for foreign exchange programs and cultural diversity. As a boy, his family hosted several adult exchange students from various countries around the world and now as an adult, he has hosted several foreign students of his own. Tom firmly believes cultural diversity plays a major role in creating the rich fabric of life we all enjoy on a daily basis.
Tom is definitely a family man, with 3 adult children of his own. His daughter is following in his globetrotting footsteps and is currently travelling in Southeast Asia, working her way around the world on a 12-month Gap Year abroad. Tom also has a large extended family with 6 brothers, 6 sisters and 55 nieces and nephews! Tom’s hobbies include carpentry, gardening, photography, and woodworking. He also likes to spend his free time in the great outdoors: hiking the local prairies and woodlands, kayaking on local streams, or climbing and skiing any mountain “bigger than a mole hill.” Tom continues to travel any chance he can get, though nowadays preferring road trips to airplane rides. He is always looking for the next direction to explore and will go out of his way to get that next great photograph!
Welcome Tom, it’s great to have you aboard!
